Signs that I’m getting comfortable in my new neighborhood: I stop dressing up and trying to look cute every time I leave my house. Like… if you could see my outfit right now that I just look a late afternoon walk in… I don’t know even know. I’m wearing an oversized flannel. Not a “cute” new one from Target, but a 90s hand-me-down from my Mom (that I LOVE btw) that has a velvet collar and velvet buttons. No joke. I’m wearing leggings, wool socks, birkenstocks, red sox hat, no makeup, my hair in a scrunchie, and am obviously bra-less. This is what happens when I have a day off from work and feel totally comfortable in the place I live. I have no shame walking around in this fine ensemble. I just pretend everyone staring at me is because I look THAT gorgeous. Jokes.
Good thing I have a job. And well dressed friends. And a boyfriend.
Otherwise I’d wear this outfit everyday.
ANYWAY. This is the playlist I was listening to when I went on said walk.
It’s actually more or less the playlist I’ve been listening to all fall. I’ve been commuting on the T to it, walking to it, cooking to it, and riding my bike to it. Someone recently asked me what my go to album was for right now and I really had to think about it. But my answer was- whatever was recently released. I’ve been so indecisive with music lately that I’ve literally just been listening to the most recently released albums from beginning to end.
That’s how Demi got on here. And because I follow her on instagram and she got me excited for her new music. I like this album so much that I now need to see her in concert STAT.
That’s how Biebs got on here. Plus his album Purpose is actually like really good. Give it a listen even if you’re not a #bielieber. I’m hooked.
That’s how Chvrches got on here. I can’t get enough of them.
And OF COURSE that’s how Adele got on here. Although, she woulda been there regardless because holy moly that new single of hers. Her new album drops this Friday and you can bet that will be added to the lineup.
OH OH and don’t even get me started on Missy’s new single. YASSSSS. I’m very much addicted to it. And the idea of her being back on the scene in general.I heard the song featuring Rashida Jones (yeah THAT Rashida Jones) thanks to my friend Eric and will wholeheartedly support anything that lady does.
I wasn’t a fan of Fall Out Boy’s song Irresistible but the remixed version of it? LOVE it.
And Ben Rector is one of my classic faves. Will and I have a friend that plays in his band- that’s how I found out about his music- but now I really genuinely love his stuff and can’t believe I didn’t listen sooner. Listen to the song Crazy if you’re like me and don’t party hard or anything- but think you’re living a pretty happy + fulfilling life. The intro is kind of cheesy but the rest of the song is hilariously accurate.
The rest of the songs on this playlist are all over the place but certainly not random. They really speak to the place where I’m at in life.Hand in My Pocket... I can’t even describe how spot on that song feels for me right now. It’s so intense. Same goes for Feel it All by Feist. I’m going through so much change in my life that that song means more to me than it ever did in the past. Same goes for I Wanna Get Better by Bleachers. I sing that song at the top of my lungs with a whole lotta passion when I’m riding my bike home from work at the end of a long day. If you’re looking for me, I’m the girl riding as fast as she can on her bike while singing off key.
It Had to Be You was included because I watch When Harry Met Sally every year around this time and its from that soundtrack. I get nostalgic in the fall for how I feel when I watch that movie.
Haim made it to the list because I was eating at Myers and Chang (one of the most amazing restaurants in Boston where they treat you like royalty but its actually affordable and the food is to die for) and they played Forever and it reminded me how much I used to listen to it.
Last but not least- Hotline Bling. It was like… THE song of Halloween. Some people are over it. I’m still not. Still loving it.
