April Playlist: Into the Light

I need to address the beautiful elephant in the room- Beyonce’s new album. There are zero songs from Lemonade on this playlist. Mainly because I don’t want to pick out songs individually just yet from that masterpiece that is clearly made to listen to from beginning to end. I’m sure next month’s playlist will feature some of my faves (I’m looking at you: Hold Up, Sorry, Sandcastles, and Freedom), but for now, I’m leaving Queen Bey in a category all on her own. I need to fully digest that work of art and emotional bombshell separate from the other music I’ve been listening to.

SO besides Lemonade (which has been in my ears nonstop this week), I’ve been listening to THIS lovely little playlist. It’s for the most part more upbeat than last month. It’s sprinkled with new releases from The Lumineers, Ariana Grande, Gwen Stefani, and K. Michelle- rounded out with some newer indie faves of mine- and completed with a couple of my favorite Prince songs. I feel like everyone always says things like this, but man, we’re losing all the good ones when it seems like we need their message and vision more than ever.Screen Shot 2016-04-25 at 8.21.57 PM

One of my favorite songs on this playlist is the collaboration between Calvin Harris and Haim. It’s like a love child made by Taylor Swift- her bffs and bf together! But I love anything Haim and its fun hearing them with a slightly different sound that’s still authentic to them.

Also the song On the Way by the duo TWENTY88 is so addicting!

And Vroom Vroom is all I need to turn my mood around.Screen Shot 2016-04-25 at 8.22.12 PMScreen Shot 2016-04-25 at 8.22.30 PMI named this playlist what it is because I finally feel like we’re headed into a warmer season. It’s sunnier, the days are longer, and I feel more hopeful and positive. We’ve moved into the light. Plus there are two songs on this playlist that feature the word light  so it seemed like a necessary theme.

  • What’s your go to Prince song?
  • What do you listen to on good weather days?
  • Thoughts on Lemonade?
